Without question the newspaper industry is on the decline. As much as their importance played in the revolutionary times, they seem to have meet their maker with the internet. The internet can update in the blink of an eye, you can check multiple sources on a single story, need I say more? Also the fact that there is the same number of newspapers in circulation as there was 30 years ago. The population most certainly has increased, therefore the numbers in circulation should as well, otherwise a decline.
Although, if newspaper were examined in small cities or towns, their subscription rate might not be on the decline because newspapers can still be a leading source for local news and information. Which leads us to another example where newspapers might not be declining, old people. Elder people can be attributed to be stuck in their ways, and one can certainly argue newspapers are a habit for people in that generation.
I personally believe that newspapers will be on the verge of extinction within 50 years, with only their companies that once ran them to have shifted focus towards the internet.
